Location: Wilton Manors, Florida
Client: Field Agency Architecture
DOP Engineering is thrilled to share details about our recent residential project development in Wilton Manors, Florida. Moreover, this custom-designed home, spanning 2,675 square feet, underscores our dedication to modern architectural aesthetics and robust structural engineering.
First, the foundation was planned as a slab-on-grade with thickened edges, providing a stable base for the structure. Similarly, we incorporated metallic columns with isolated foundations to enhance support and load distribution, thereby strengthening the foundation and boosting the house’s overall durability.
Additionally, for the walls, we opted for Concrete Masonry Units (CMU) due to their strength and resilience. These CMU walls complement concrete tie-beams, which provide additional structural support and help in evenly distributing the loads across the foundation. As a result, this combination ensures the house stands firm against various environmental stresses.
In the same way, for the second floor and roof, we chose the Hambro system, which combines steel joists with a concrete slab. This system offers numerous advantages. Notably, it provides superior fire resistance, sound insulation, and long-term structural integrity. Consequently, it also allows for greater flexibility in architectural design, ensuring a seamless blend of functionality and aesthetics.
Furthermore, we worked closely with Field Agency Architecture to ensure our structural designs aligned perfectly with their architectural vision for the home. As a result of this collaborative approach, we achieved guaranteed and seamless integration of form and function, ensuring a residence that would be both visually stunning and structurally sound. Additionally, our meticulous attention to detail in both design and construction ensures that every aspect of the project meets the highest standards of quality and innovation.

Location: Coral Gables, Florida.
Project Type: Residential Addition and Retrofit.
Client: Blank Design and Architecture.
DOP Engineering provided the structural design for this residential addition, interior retrofit and accessory building in Coral Gables. The project blended new construction with the existing structure, requiring a seamless transition between both systems.
The existing home was supported on wall footings with a crawl space, while the new addition was built on a slab-on-grade foundation. CMU walls and a wood truss roof formed the main structure, with the new roof featuring a parapet to match the updated architectural style.
To enhance the outdoor space, DOP Engineering also designed a rear canopy adjacent to the pool area. Our team developed custom concealed connections to maintain a clean aesthetic while ensuring structural integrity. Additionally, a small retaining wall was designed to manage a grade difference near the pool, providing both stability and visual harmony with the landscape.
Although DOP Engineering did not handle the structural design of the pool itself, the team coordinated closely with the design professionals to ensure compatibility between the pool renovation, retaining wall, and surrounding structures.
This project reflects the balance between functionality and design detail that defines DOP Engineering’s approach to residential work, combining precise engineering with architectural intent.

Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Client: Boris Zats
DOP Engineering was chosen for the Structural Design of the Zats Residence due to our expertise in the field. The client needed a team to design the structure for his residence in Fort Lauderdale, and he knew that we were the right fit for the job. We eagerly accepted the challenge and worked collaboratively to bring his vision to life.
Although the Zats Residence project featured typical CMU walls and concrete columns, our team implemented unique elements to ensure the building’s structural integrity. One of these was the Hambro system on the second floor, a composite floor system consisting of open web steel joists embedded in a concrete slab. Our team designed the connections to the wall and beams for this system.
In addition, we provided calculations and designed the composite beams on the roof. We used new software to check the load results for these steel beams, which had a reinforced slab cast over them with shear connectors.
Despite its seemingly simple appearance, the Zats Residence project was quite complex due to its unique structural elements. Our team had to develop a deep understanding of the various components and their interactions to provide effective solutions. We worked closely with a specialty engineer to resolve the issue of helical piles (foundations). Through thorough research and innovative approaches, we were able to overcome challenges and ensure the project’s success.
This project has been an exciting experience for our team, demonstrating our expertise in structural design and our commitment to using innovative approaches and technologies. We are proud to have delivered the best possible results for our clients, ensuring that the finished home has a structurally sound and efficient system that meets their needs and expectations.
